Birding Information
In May 2006 Sylvia & Steve were privileged to have Andy Benson and his family stay with us from the UK, and they have provided us with the following information on the bird-life seen both at the Valley House property, and in the surrounding locality.
The narrative on this page and the photo's in the banner were taken by Andy Benson, and are all (c) Copyright 2006 Andy Benson. Hover your mouse over the banner photos to see details, and click them to get a larger version.
Thanks Andy!

The following birds were seen in Sylvia and Steve’s garden at The Valley House in Samford Valley, Brisbane, Queensland during our stay in May 2006.
Additionally a pair of Bush Thick-knees appeared to be resident a couple of blocks up the road.
Very close to The Valley House the local golf course was just a short walk away and as well as many of the above, also held:

The habitat here is wooded with tangled underbrush. Additional species here included:
Driving around the Samford Valley area we also managed to see:
On top of these areas, which are all relatively close to The Valley House, an excellent area to visit for birding is Lake Samsonvale which is about a half hour drive. Accessed from the cemetery, depending on the season and amount of rainfall, there will either be a large lake in front of the visitor or a sprawling grassland with a distant smaller lake as it was on our visit.
On top of many of the birds already mentioned, there were several more birds of prey and water birds at Lake Samsonvale:
